Forex volumes
Forex is the most immense financial market in the world. In April 2004, its average trade turnover amounted to 1.9 trillion dollars a day, which is more than:
- eleven-fold average total turnover of all world exchanges (167 billion dollars);
- forty-fold average turnover of the NYSE is the largest exchange in the world (46 billion dollars);
- 300 dollars a day for every inhabitant in the world.
The main markets are: the United States, Great Britain and Japan. Great Britain and the United States account for more than a half of all Forex trading. The activity reaches its highest point when all main markets are open.
This is the data from the latest study conducted by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in April-June 2004. The next BIS survey is scheduled for 2007, preliminary results are to be published in September, the final ones - at the end of the year.
